Mapping a Drive from Windows Vista, 2000, XP or Windows server
To access the software you first need to map a drive to the Software Distribution servers. This will show up under "My Computer".
- Right click "My Computer".
- Choose "Map Network Drive".
- Select a drive letter not in use on your system, such as z.
- Fill in the "Folder" field with the the computer name and share name e-mailed to you by Software Distribution. Examples:
- To get to the server share point on "swdist.ucsd.edu" and the volume "select6", type: \swdist.ucsd.edu\select6
- To get to a share point on the server "swdist2k.ucsd.edu: and the volume "campus30", type: \swdist2k.ucsd.edu\campus30
- Uncheck the "Reconnect at login" box.
- Click on the link that says "connect using a different user name".
- Enter the username and password sent to you in e-mail. Make sure to type them exactly, including capitalization and punctuation.
- Click "OK".
- Click "Finish".
- You are now ready to copy files.
Troubleshooting
Copy Files
- Open the icon in the start menu or on your desktop labeled "My Computer" by double clicking on the icon.
- Double click on the icon representing the Drive you mapped to point to the Software Distribution server.
- Locate the files you need and either copy and paste them to your computer, or install over the network if that is an available option. (SAS as an example has both options).
Disconnect from the Software Distribution computer
When you have completed copying your files or folders, or installing over the network, please follow these instructions for disconnecting from the server.
- Right click "My Computer".
- Choose "Disconnect Network Drive".
- Select the drive letter in use on your system, such as z.
