UCSD ImageCast Agreement
Academic Computing Services distributes departmental licenses for ImageCast software under an annual license lease arrangement worked out by the University and Innovative Software.
ImageCast is a product from Phoenix Technologies, (formerly Storagesoft) with functions including disk cloning, SID fixing and other related functions for Microsoft Windows operating systems. As of 3/2002 the version is 4.6 but updated versions are provided to currently licensed departments, as they come available.
License Costs:
Departmental Licenses for IMAGECAST are $200. Annual renewals are $100 after the first year. Departments are entitled to current version during the fiscal year the license is purchased. Each department running the software must obtain a license. Most Intel based PC users at the university can take advantage of this program. The annual campus license renews every July 1st. If renewed this will include any upgrades or new versions released to the program during the period.
Printed documentation is not provided with these licenses, but manuals in Portable Document Form (.PDF) are included. Installation media may be copied via non anonymous ftp, appletalk or windows networking. We do not make up floppy disks, or deliver.
Academic Computing Services will provide only very limited technical support for IMAGECAST , mostly related to installation.
The use of IMAGECAST at UCSD is governed by a license agreement which was entered into by The University and Innovative Software. The software is the copyrighted property of Innovative Software, and contains trade secrets of Innovative Software. All title to the software remains with Innovative Software at all times.
Participants will use the software for academic studies and/or research purposes only, and shall not use the software for any commercial or profit-making purposes whatsoever. If the license is discontinued the user is required to destroy any copies of the software or be subject to disciplinary or legal action by UCSD and Innovative Software. Each copy contains a mechanism which employs a key which must be applied to copies of IMAGECAST software and must be renewed each year Imagecast is in use in the department.
There is an annual fee for renewing the license to use IMAGECAST software. Use of an expired license is a violation of the license agreement.
The following information must be provided to establish a license.
- Name, Address, department
- Number of machines to use Imagecast on
- Type of hardware
- Operating systems
- UCSD id number
- Media required to install software
- Department IFIS budget number
For the purposes of these licenses, a department is defined as an academic department, an administrative unit, an ORU, a program or project, etc., as listed in the current UCSD Telephone directory.
