UCSD PC-Rdist Agreement
ACS sells low cost right-to-copy licenses for PC-Rdist to departmental
contacts only, no individual sales. PC-Rdist is available for Windows
95, Windows NT, DOS, Windows 3.x. The FAT type operating system and NTFS
are supported. PC-Rdist is consistently among the top Software distribution
products. The PC-Rdist license program answers the frequent question of
how to get affordable software installation to computers on campus.
Our license is for version 1.xx of this program.
PC-Rdist is a software distribution utility for Win32 and DOS. It is used to maintain a standard set of files and settings on multiple computers across a network. To accomplish this, PC-Rdist runs on the client machines and compares files and settings on the local computer to "master" copies located on a server. Based on this comparison, PC-Rdist can
- replace missing or modified files
- move files added by users to a temp directory, or delete them
- update the local registry
- restore system settings
License Costs:
Each department running the software must obtain a license at the following
rate. There is no volume discount. The software is for systems
contained within a department and may not be shared between departments.
For the purposes of this license, a department is defined as an academic
department, an administrative unit, an ORU, a program or project, etc.,
as listed in the current UCSD Telephone directory.
Departmental licenses are $20 each.
Maintenance cost:
The vendor has changed the cost structure for version 2.x of PC-Rdist
to a per-workstation charge. Many of the features of PC-Rdist have been
enhanced to be similiar to Imagecast 3. We have a better price available
for Imagecast 3. You may be interested in looking at that product if version
1.x does not meet your needs.
Manuals are not available from this program at this time.
Media:
A "zip file" will be available over the campus network as the
primary method of distribution. ACS also has 1 set of media for these
products that may be checked out for a brief period from ACS Software
Distribution.
Support:
ACS can only provide very limited technical support on these products.
Primarily support will relate to the actual installation of the product.
License Certificates:
ACS will provide a license certificate for each department licensing this
software under this program. This certificate will legitimize the software
in the event of an audit.
ACS only distributes this software to departments, not to individuals.
