UCSD 2006 Sun Software Consortium
ACS coordinates an annual consortium of Sun Microsystems software users. These are departmental contacts only; no individuals.
Members of the consortium may check-out media for covered products.
Members are licensed to use covered products.
Members receive the domain-based license key for the Sun Studio software.
Members can get access to Sun's Online Support Center (OSC).
Who qualifies:
Consortium membership is only available to UCSD departments.
Purchases can only be through campus IFIS Index number.
When the agreement starts and stops:
The program currently runs Feb 1, 2006 - Jan 31, 2007.

License Costs:
Each machine running the software must obtain a license at the following
rates.
The fee structure noted below is for systems contained within a department and may not be shared between departments.
For the purposes of these licenses, a department is defined as an academic
department, an administrative unit, an ORU, a program or project, etc., as listed
in the current UCSD Telephone directory.
One system contact for a set of Suns.
Fee: $275 per departmental contact.
Each Sun System in the UCSD Sun Software Consortium
program.
Fee: $25 per machine.
For each system enrolled we need the following information:
Departmental Contact ($275 per person)
- Name
- Department
- Title
- Email address
- Phone
- Campus Mail Code
- (*) IFIS Index
Please note, the designated contact is the only one who is allowed to borrow software installation media from the library.
(*) All IFIS Index numbers MUST begin with the same 3 letter departmental prefix.
NO alternate contacts.
Please provide the following for each Sun system to be enrolled ($25 each):
- Hostname (.ucsd.edu)
- hostid (result of executing "/bin/hostid" or "/usr/bin/hostid" on each system.)
- Serial Number
- Model Number
- (*) IFIS Index
The System Manager, System Users and Department agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the University's agreement with the software vendors, and agree that the product(s) will be used only on the listed hostid/Serial Number systems, and that every reasonable effort will be made to prevent unauthorized use or distribution. If the subscription is discontinued or a system is not re-enrolled you may be required to send a signed letter stating that certain UCSD Sun Software Library programs, licenses, keys, and/or passwords have been removed from the system and destroyed.

Sun Application Products for Registered Systems in 2006
Solaris Operating System, SPARC/Intel Platform.
Sun Studio 10 software( C, C++ and Fortran) SPARCC/x86/LX platform.
(Sun Studio 10 software uses a ScholarPack, "ucsd.edu" DNS domain license file
obtained from ACS Software Distribution)

Members can send their request regarding SunSolve account to software@ucsd.edu
An authorized user will have access to Sun's Online Support Center(OSC). These users will be listed as a contact on a maintenance contract and have ESID and PIN numbers. SUN Online Support Center is a single point of access for SUN customers to technical information, tools, resources and services available 24/7.
In addition, customers can use the SUN Online Support Center to:
- Troubleshoot the Sun knowledge base with a new improved search engine
- Submit, update and track technical support request
- Download patches and software updates
- Request e-mail notifications on software update availability
- Manage Sun system and software assetsAccess internet based self-service reporting, configuration and management tools linking their Sun systems to Sun knowledge.

Individual Sales:
The license agreement does not allow for distribution to individuals; ACS only distributes this software to departments. Departments may not distribute to individuals, though licenses may be purchased for institutionally owned machines used by faculty or staff at home, or off campus.
