VMware offers Operating system and Application virtualization software, and management tools for virtual machines and virtualized applications.
ACMS/Software Distribution makes VMware products and services available to UCSD at reduced prices even better than the normal 40% discount that education can get directly from VMware and many resellers.
For any production VMware use we have discount prices as detailed on the (linked) price list posted here.
The following example price comparison as of 9/16/08 may help you decide if it is better to to purchase via our consolidated orders if you can wait, or at normal educational prices:
VMware Workstation 6 for Windows:

- UC price: $93.31
Delivery of license codes is after orders are fulfilled. Consolidated orders are placed monthly or bi-weekly. Expected ETA on license codes is approximately 6-7 weeks based upon past performance. We do not stock license codes for VMware products. Most VMware products require first year maintenance. (Fusion does not).
All VMware software is distributed via Electronic Distribution; no physical media is available =. What you will receive is the license code via email from ACMS/Software distribution that will enable the software. Much of the VMware software product line can be tried for up to 4 weeks.

Payment must be made with IFIS index/recharge numbers. No Tax as there is no physical delivery. We add a $20 transaction fee to each VMware order, so quantity purchases will save you money. Individual orders for some low cost items may cost more than a direct educational purchase. Transaction fees are per software vendor.
